Parker County Heritage Society

Weatherford, Texas

Established in 1976, the Parker County Heritage Society grew out of the Historic Homes of Parker County Society established two years earlier.

Since its inception, the Society has encouraged the cause of preservation throughout the County. This goal is reflected in our mission statement which is:  advancing preservation of buildings, homes and sites of historic or architectural significance; promoting the maintenance of documents and records describing the heritage of the County, its citizens and ancestors; and sponsoring civic, educational and cultural events celebrating the County's heritage.

Parker County, established in 1855, was for a number of years at the edge of the western frontier.  The County seat of Weatherford, established in 1856, served for many years as the political center for the “jumbo” 11th Congressional District.  The District covered an area from the eastern Parker County line to El Paso, Texas.

Weatherford’s tradesmen, farmers, ranchers, bankers, merchants, and lawyers grew a prosperous town that was the center of political, economic, and social activity for many years.  Much of their construction remains today.

In 1981 the Society began sponsoring an annual Candlelight Tour of Homes.  This event, held the second Saturday in December, highlights homes, churches, and buildings left by these pioneers.

Membership is open to all and meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month.  There is a membership fee of $20 per year.

We are a non-profit 501 (c)(3) organization.
