Hood Home

Constructed in a modified Queen Ann style, this beautiful home began as a one-story farmhouse in the late 1800’s.  In 1909, prominent Weatherford lawyer, R.B. Hood bought the home from the Sheppard family and added the second story shortly thereafter.  Extensive restoration of the home began in 1982.  The home’s interior boasts rare front and rear staircases, beautiful carved mouldings, ornate oak mantels, and a striking mirrored hallway.  The property’s original windmill is still in use today, providing water for landscaping irrigation.

R.B. Hood was born in Tennessee in 1863 and came to Texas in a covered wagon with his widowed mother and eight other children.  He graduated from the University of Texas in 1892 in its fist law class.  While still a student he served one term in the Texas Legislature.  He began his law practice in Weatherford in 1893 and served four years as County Attorney before forming the partnership of Hood and Shadle.  Mr. Hood was noted as an orater with great power to sway a jury.  He died in 1943.  Mrs. Hood was a popular teacher and social leader.  She died in 1956 and they are buried in City Greenwood Cemetery.
