Mays House
212 East Lee Avenue
The Mays House, now the Rose Garden Cottage Bed & Breakfast, sits on just over one-fourth of an acre and was originally part of a five acre tract of land purchased in 1869 for $150.00. The land changed hands eight times until 1921 when Z.B. Mays purchased the five acres and built the bungalow-style home in 1922. After three more owners, Vera Ragle purchased the home in 1947 and lived there until 1981 when she passed away. She lived in the home longer than anybody and many local residents remember her as a loving school teacher who also taught music in the home. There were four more owners until the current owners, Gary and Lee Ann Gillespie, purchased the home from Laurie Forester in May of 2008. With the city’s approval, they turned the bungalow into Weatherford’s first stand-alone B&B cottage in October of 2008. It is a private getaway featuring a cozy cottage furnished in antiques with two bedrooms, two full baths, and a complete kitchen.
